The Mays app is where the shift happens: tasks, the schedule, clocking in and out, chat and the knowledge base. It's free to download for iPhone, iPad and Android.

The quickest way is mays.app/get — open it on your phone and it takes you straight to the right store. On a computer it shows both store buttons. It's the same link that's in the text message Mays sends when you're added to a team. The Mays sign-in page on the web has the store buttons too.

The Get the Mays app page at mays.app/get with the Download on the App Store and Get it on Google Play buttons

On your home screen the app is called Mays.

Sign in for the first time

  1. Open the app.
  2. Enter your mobile phone number and tap Login.
  3. Enter the 6-digit code we text you.

That's it — there's no password in the app. The phone number has to be the one your manager added for you; if the app says No account found for this phone number, ask them to check it. More detail: Signing in on web and mobile.

What the app asks permission for

The app asks the first time it needs something, never all at once. You can change any of these later in your phone's Settings.

Permission

When it's asked

What it's for

Notifications

Right after you sign in

New shifts and schedule changes, tasks, approvals and chat messages. Say Allow — without it you'll only see these when you open the app.

Camera

The first time you take a photo

Photo answers on tasks, your profile picture, and pictures in chat.

Photos

The first time you attach an existing photo (iPhone)

Picking pictures and videos to send. Android uses its built-in photo picker and doesn't ask.

Microphone

The first time you record a voice message

Voice messages in chat.

Location (while using the app)

The first time a task asks for your location, or when you clock in

Tasks that record where they were done, and checking you're at the store when you clock in, if your location has that turned on.

Speech recognition (iPhone)

The first time you count stock by voice

Counting inventory by speaking.

On Android, the app also uses NFC so you can clock in by tapping your phone on a Mays tag, where your store uses them.

Keeping the app up to date

Updates come through the App Store and Google Play like any other app. Turn on automatic updates so you always have the latest fixes and features.

Good to know

  • Same app for everyone. Employees, managers and admins all use the same app; managers see extra things such as approvals and their team.
  • Shared tablets. A tablet that stays in the store can be turned into a shared kiosk: a manager signs in, opens Profile and taps Convert to shared device (there when your plan includes Devices). After that, staff sign in with their 4-digit PIN instead of their phone number.
  • iPad and Android tablets work too. On iPhone the app stays upright (portrait); on iPad it turns with the screen.
  • Several businesses? If your phone number is on more than one Mays team, the app asks which one to open after you sign in — and you can switch later in Profile.
