# Installing the Mays apps

Get the Mays app on iPhone, iPad or Android — where to download it, which phones it runs on, what it asks permission for, and how to sign in the first time.

For: Admins, Managers, Employees · On: iOS, Android · [Help Center](https://www.mays.app/help) › [Mobile apps](https://www.mays.app/help/mobile-apps) · Last updated October 3, 2026 · Mays Team

The Mays app is where the shift happens: tasks, the schedule, clocking in and out, chat and the knowledge base. It's free to download for iPhone, iPad and Android.

## Download

| | Store | Name in the store | Needs |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **iPhone and iPad** | [App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mays-operations/id6762584499) | **Mays Operations** | iOS / iPadOS 17 or later |
| **Android phones and tablets** | [Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yyvz.mays) | **Mays** | Android 8.0 or later |

The quickest way is **mays.app/get** — open it on your phone and it takes you straight to the right store. On a computer it shows both store buttons. It's the same link that's in the text message Mays sends when you're added to a team. The Mays sign-in page on the web has the store buttons too.

On your home screen the app is called **Mays**.

## Sign in for the first time

1. Open the app.
2. Enter your mobile phone number and tap **Login**.
3. Enter the 6-digit code we text you.

That's it — there's no password in the app. The phone number has to be the one your manager added for you; if the app says *No account found for this phone number*, ask them to check it. More detail: [Signing in on web and mobile](https://www.mays.app/help/getting-started/signing-in).

## What the app asks permission for

The app asks the first time it needs something, never all at once. You can change any of these later in your phone's **Settings**.

| Permission | When it's asked | What it's for |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Notifications** | Right after you sign in | New shifts and schedule changes, tasks, approvals and chat messages. Say **Allow** — without it you'll only see these when you open the app. |
| **Camera** | The first time you take a photo | Photo answers on tasks, your profile picture, and pictures in chat. |
| **Photos** | The first time you attach an existing photo (iPhone) | Picking pictures and videos to send. Android uses its built-in photo picker and doesn't ask. |
| **Microphone** | The first time you record a voice message | Voice messages in chat. |
| **Location** (while using the app) | The first time a task asks for your location, or when you clock in | Tasks that record where they were done, and checking you're at the store when you clock in, if your location has that turned on. |
| **Speech recognition** (iPhone) | The first time you count stock by voice | Counting inventory by speaking. See [Counting inventory in the app](https://www.mays.app/help/inventory/count-inventory-on-mobile). |

On Android, the app also uses NFC so you can clock in by tapping your phone on a Mays tag, where your store uses them.

## Keeping the app up to date

Updates come through the App Store and Google Play like any other app. Turn on automatic updates so you always have the latest fixes and features.

## Good to know

- **Same app for everyone.** Employees, managers and admins all use the same app; managers see extra things such as approvals and their team.
- **Shared tablets.** A tablet that stays in the store can be turned into a shared kiosk: a manager signs in, opens **Profile** and taps **Convert to shared device** (there when your plan includes **Devices**). After that, staff sign in with their 4-digit PIN instead of their phone number.
- **iPad and Android tablets** work too. On iPhone the app stays upright (portrait); on iPad it turns with the screen.
- **Several businesses?** If your phone number is on more than one Mays team, the app asks which one to open after you sign in — and you can switch later in **Profile**.
